The Martinez Trap Team is a competitive California Youth Shooting Sports Association (CYSSA) program for boys and girls who are in 12th grade or younger. This program is a youth development program that provides its participants with a positive, life-enhancing opportunity to participate in a supervised shotgun shooting sports program, taught by certified coaches. We emphasize safety, skill development, good sportsmanship – and fun!

Throughout the year, a series of “fun shoots” are held at various clubs. Typically, several hundred competitors attend and shoot in five categories based on age and experience. The format is 100 targets, 50 in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. In June, there is a 200-target multi-day shoot for the State Championships.

In addition to the CYSSA “fun shoots”, it’s expected that Team Members will also have fun and gain competition experience participating in the monthly Club Shoots at the Martinez Gun Club, unless there’s a conflicting CYSSA shoot that day.

We meet, generally on Saturdays, from January through November. Practice starts at 8:45 and lasts until 11:00. There is a more detailed shooting calendar in the Martinez Gun Club Clubhouse. Loaner shotguns are available, ammunition is for sale in the Clubhouse, or you can bring your own.

The CVCHS Trap team is for both boys and girls, grades 9-12. It provides participants with an opportunity to participate in a supervised, shooting sports program taught by Certified Shotgun Coaches that emphasizes gun safety and skill development in clay target shooting. The learning environment at team practices and at competitive events is designed to include the element of fun for all participants. Good sportsmanship, individual responsibility, self-discipline, positive academic progress and personal commitment are emphasized in the CVCHS program.

The CVCHS Trap team follows all CYSSA (California Youth Shooting Sports Associations) guidelines and rules.

Practices are Wednesdays from 5:00 - 6:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 - 11:00.

Practices are held at either United Sportsman in Concord (generally Wednesdays) or Martinez Gun Club (generally Saturdays).

4-H offers shooting sports programs to teach youth development. Our programs help young people develop self-confidence, personal discipline, responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem and sportsmanship; in addition to providing a positive experience for youth and promoting the safe and ethical use of firearms, education to reduce gun accidents, and helping continue the rich American traditions of hunting and shooting. The discipline and self-control required for responsible firearms use carries over into many other aspects of life.

So, if you are between the ages of 9 & 18 and are interested in the 4-H Shotgun Project, contact one of the Project Leaders listed below!

The Martinez Gun Club works closely with the Boy Scouts of America to bring shooting sports and shooting safety training to our youth. Our club is located in the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council and the Martinez Gun Club hosts the Council Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp and Marksmanship Shoot. Troops (and Crews) can also schedule "troop shoots" by arranging with the Council for NRA and BSA certified shotgun instructors to supervise the shoot as required by BSA National regulations and Shotgun merit badge counselors as needed. Calling Greg Fahmie at the clubhouse to schedule your shoot!

The Martinez Gun Club is proud to have the opportunity to offer our facilities for youth programs, and of course we invite the whole family to join the Martinez Gun Club!
